At Up North Heritage Farm, our Mangalitsa pigs are our pride and joy. Mangalitsa pigs are commonly referred to as the “Kobe Beef” of pork, which is just a fancy way of saying that it is the best of the best.

Mangalitsa pigs are a rare breed with a 200-year-old Hungarian heritage. Mangalitsa pork is prized for its high-fat content, incredibly concentrated flavor, and highly marbelized meat, all qualities that were once rejected in preference for “white” low-fat pork. Why do we need low-fat white pork? We have chicken for that!

Our pigs are no exception to our ethical commitment, because, well we don’t have any exceptions, but also because they live and thrive in open pastures and in a 5-acre apple orchard.

When you consume our products, you can be ensured that you are getting quality food through our raising practices. Our pigs enjoy a variety of forage and barley. We never feed our pigs corn or soybeans. Therefore, they never need any hormones or antibiotics. What does this mean exactly? Long story short, it means that you are getting meat full of essential minerals and nutrients.
